Happy February! We’ve gone from the noise and celebration of Chinese New Year into the flowers and facetime of Valentine’s Day.
Unlike CNY, Valentine’s Day doesn’t have dozens of rituals and traditions to tell us what is polite and expected. To help you navigate this V-Day minefield, we suggest the magic of tabletop gaming – bonding comes from interaction and when it comes to interacting with someone and getting to know them, there’s few better ways than gaming! (It’s certainly more revealing than watching a film!)
Playing games with someone can surprise you with their personality– a sudden splash of boldness, or a chance to show you how funny they are. Here are some games to try out this week with the lady / gentleman of your choice!
A game about collecting and cooking mushrooms that is both whimsical and easy to learn. Players go walking in the woods and collecting ingredients to prepare their meals. Each mushroom is accompanied by a whimsical illustration along with its improbable sounding name - Lawyer’s Wig, Hen of the Woods, Chanterelle - but beware the poisonous Destroying Angel!
What better way to bond with your gaming partner than saving the world? Diseases are running rampant across the globe, and you have to work together to research cures and heal the sick before it’s too late. This quick playing, yet intense game can be tuned for whatever difficulty you prefer, and features fully co-operative gameplay.
Lord of the Rings: Confrontation
A classic game about a classic series. LOTR:C allows players to act out the storyline of the epic battle - the Free People of Middle Earth vs The Dark Lord Sauron and his armies. Featuring fast gameplay and deep interactions, LOTR:C is a contest of wits as the Free People player tries to get Frodo to the mountain with the One Ring while the other player arrays their monsters to stop him.
Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures Game
If fantasy isn’t your thing, jump into the cockpit of the Star Wars series most iconic ships. Calculate intense turns and lock on with your laser cannons, this fast-flying game of space battles looks as visually impressive as it is fun to play.
Whatever you choose to do this February 14th, we hope that you spend it with someone you care about. Happy Valentine’s Day!
I'm busy working on my blog posts. Watch this space!
